Objectives of the competition

On May 2019, Ministry of Science and Technology was transformed into the “Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).” A mission of the new ministry is to establish connectivity between higher education, science and innovations, from policy level to operational level in order to improve Thailand’s competitiveness in the 21st century. There is a great number of Thai students in the U.S. learning in various fields and institutes. Whether sponsored by Thai government or supporting themselves with private funds, the students aims to utilize their knowledge and experiences in supporting of our mother country and hoping to see Thailand make progress in social and economic development. Seeing the value of connection between Thai students in the U.S., the Office of Science and Technology, Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C. (OST) arrange “Thai Student Association Database and Social Platform Design Competition” to seek great database project ideas that will help build connections between Thai students and related stakeholders. The objectives of the project are:

  • Provide an opportunity for Thai students from variety of background to participate in designing database and social platform that will be used by Thai students and Thai government agencies.
  • Provide an opportunity for Thai students to present their expertise and works to professionals and stakeholders.

What we are looking for.

Database or social platform or technologies that:

  • is an online based application, users can access the system from anywhere (mainly from the U.S. and Thailand),
  • collects and securely stores student information who register to the system,
  • provides members user names/screen names and protect important personal information from other members,
  • supports interactions and communication with each other within the community,
  • allows manager(s) to manage information and membership,
  • is easy to manage  and user friendly,
  • have other functions that you think useful,
  • the system can be built from scratch or developed on existing platform. However, the final outcome should be cost effective and function in the long term.

Technical information/requirements

  • the platform will be hosted at OST’s hosting platform (
  • database parameters can be freely designed to support the objectives of the project

Qualified eligible participants

  • currently a student or recently graduated from a U.S. university
  • have relations to Thailand such as being international students from Thailand, growing up in Thai family, etc.
  • Participants can be an individual or team (no limit to the number of team members)

Submitting your design

The design submissions must be submitted by Midnight of Sunday August 18, 2019. The submission must include:

  1. Abstract summarizing the design concept, solution, and management.
  2. Diagram of database management system that shows details of database/platform such as entity, attribute, and relationship.
  3. Student information:
    – Name and last name
    – University name, academic program
    – Level of education
    – Contact information

Prizes for the winner

  • Award certificates from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI)  for all team members
  • A round-trip flight ticket and hotel room for ONE team member to present and participate activities in 2019 Annual Thai Student Conference which is held in Seattle, WA (includes a visit to U.S. companies such as Amazon and Microsoft on Sept. 5, and participate the Student meeting on Sept. 6 – 7, 2019
  • 5,000 THB award for the wining team
