Project Title: Science and Technology Education in the U.S.
Language: English

Project Opening: 11/2/2015
Project Closing: 11/20/2015

Description

Science, technology and innovation advance international partnerships, stimulate economic growth, enhance energy security and contribute to open societies. Improving science and technology engineering and math education (STEM) and promoting innovation is a U.S. priority.  Participants will visit federal agencies, schools, NGOs and associations to explore the organization of U.S. education systems and how curricula are implemented to improve math and science instructional practices. Participants will meet with teachers and observe scientific classroom instruction at the elementary and secondary school level.  Visitors will also explore public-private partnerships designed to accelerate STEM learning and exchange best practices with educators and curriculum developers at the 2015 regional conference of the National Association for Science Teachers (NSTA).

This project is designed for secondary school educators, teacher trainers, administrators and officials from ministries of education and other professionals involved in science and technology education and educational policy-making. Participants must speak and understand English fluently.

General Guidelines in Participant Selection:

  1. IVLP nominees should show the ability or the potential to influence policy or public opinion in an area of importance to U.S.-Thai relations.
  2. Nominees should be generally at mid-career level and between 25-45 years of age.  Exceptions, with strong justification, can only be made for extraordinary nominees.
  3. Preference is given to nominees with limited, no prior experience in the U.S. or not graduated from the U.S.
  4. Nominees must have adequate English fluency.  These projects require at least 3/3/3 level reading/listening/spoken English ability.
  5. Grantees travel economy class to and within the U.S.  They should not expect red-carpet treatment at appointments or in transport or hotel arrangements.  The per diem, when accounting for varying costs in diverse U.S. cities, is adequate.
